				 1st May 2019, was a day of 
				excitement, when the environment team from DPS Sharjah attended 
				the Environment Excellence School Award function at Al Jawahar 
				Convention Centre, Sharjah. The award is an ongoing competition 
				launched by Bee’ah School of Environment, a Sharjah-based waste 
				management body, designed to help school teachers and instruct 
				students on environmental responsibility. 
				It spreads awareness on all environmental aspects such as 
				preserving natural resources, reducing waste disposal and 
				conserving water. 
				 
				The awards recognized the projects based on its creativity, 
				innovation and environmental sustainability of implementing the 
				3R’s – reduce, re-use, recycle – implemented within the schools’ 
				activities.  
				 
				Delhi Private School Sharjah won the second prize in the 
				large school category by collecting 30 tons of recyclable 
				materials, winning a cash prize of 10,000 and third place in the 
				innovation Project with a cash prize of 10,000. 
				 
				An environmental enthusiast from grade12, Ruben Simon Roys’s
				environmental efforts won him fourth place for ‘outstanding 
				individual student achievement.  
				 
				The DPS trailblazer of Sustainability, Ms. Anjum Hasan 
				who has already won the Outstanding teacher award -The Sharjah 
				Awareness Environment Award (SEAA) twice made a remarkable HAT 
				Trick this year being the only WINNER in in the 
				Environment Excellence School Award outshining in the 
				UAE.(The competition has been open to all 7 emirates since 2017 
				which was only restricted to Sharjah 
				before). 
				 
				The team claims that it is the collective effort of each student 
				and teacher who were involved to set DPS Sharjah as a leading 
				example. The Director& Principal, Ms. Vandana Marwaha, while 
				congratulating the team, stated that “Our real satisfaction 
				comes from knowing that our work is having a positive effect on 
				the environment and this honour has brought a huge 
				responsibility as well, in safe guarding the planet”.
